Nah....I Don't!

Well, finally, we have internet....yea!!!!!! This morning, when we first woke up, we did not have power. Then, after the power finally came back on, we realized we had no internet! According to my husband, who has "connections," a man in Mount Vernon did not call and check before he started digging, and he cut the lines....whew! I don't think I'd want to be that guy today, footing the bill that will carry. It almost makes me feel sorry for him, but.....nah.....I really don't.:) I mean, really, he knew better....just read the signs; it only would have taken one phone call to make sure he was ok to dig there! And by the way, what was he doing, digging at 5:30 in the morning? Hmmmm......kinda fishy. Anyway, we made the most of our time working on school work, playing outside, and even planting some seeds in our little Jiffy greenhouse. I'll be back on this evening with a post, though.....right now, have a boy to get to Tae Kwon Do!

Daybook for June 1, 2009

FOR TODAY, Monday, June 1, 2009 ...
Outside my window...
it is sunny and warm.
I am thinking...that we had so much fun this weekend.

I am thankful for...good friends; friends who share like values; friends who desire to raise their kids in a Christian home.

From the learning rooms...we start 2nd grade this week! We're just doing a little bit through the summer to kind of stay refreshed and stay on top of things....we start Singapore Math, which I'm so excited about.

From the kitchen...tonight will be Garden Style Club sandwiches with veggies and fruit.

I am wearing...green bermudas/capris and blue Colorado t-shirt.

I am creating...a whole portfolio/schedule/packet for when we arrive in PA; have so much to do to get ready for the homeschooling laws up there.

I am going...nowhere today, hopefully, except to mow the property later on.

I am reading...The Way They Learn(almost finished) and The Hole in Our Gospel by the president of World Vision.

I am hoping...that Jacob will not feel so sad today; there were many tears yesterday, leaving Noah's house; they bonded immediately and had so much fun together; I think they could be best buds for a long time.

I am hearing...the boys playing with their little guitar and cars.
Around the house...have to dust, vacuum, and mop today and just catching up on a little laundry.

One of my favorite things...learning new things; there's always something to learn in every situation, in every place, in every day.

A few plans for the rest of the week: school, keeping up with household stuff, getting prepared to move (which I'll post about this week), possibly closing on the property if everything comes through ok, baking for Amanda's yard/bake sale, errands/groceries, going away party for Amanda Sunday at Bado, etc.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...(I got this from Sarah's blog, Mommy's Musings. This is siblings, waiting to be adopted in an Ethiopian orphanage. Rosie absolutely stole our hearts this weekend, and when Sarah told me that only 40% of orphans in the orphanage will be adopted, it broke my heart. We plan to adopt, eventually; we're trying to get things on track, but we are definitely planning on adopting (whether internationally or domestic), and we're hoping to do so within the next couple of years. This is something we feel God is calling us to do, and when you see these children's faces, it's very heart wrenching....I can't imagine going there in person and holding them, then having to leave them behind, as Sarah had to do. These children deserve arms to hold them and love them and take care of them; Rosie's story is like that of many of the kids over there; it's so sad, but we can do something about this; as Christians, as Christ's followers, we can and should do something about this.)

Road Trip!

Well, I probably won't be online too much over the weekend, because we are off to "Oklahoma! Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain" for a day or two. I'm so excited because we are going to see my bestest friend from high school, Sarah, and her wonderful family. I also get to spend more time getting to know not only her boys, Noah and Nathan, but that little girl in the middle....Rosie,whom they just adopted from Ethiopia 6 weeks ago.You can read their story over onSarah's blog, Mommy's Musings. Sarah tells all about the adoption process with Rosie, and I absolutely love her post on "why" they adopted. It's very thought-provoking and heart-provoking too.....

I couldn't help but to post this picture of when Sarah and Rosie first met....brings tears....

Anyway, we're excited to get away, even for just 2 days! Yea!!!!! Who knows, though? You might see me; you know me, can't stay away from this for too long....will have pics posted when we get back! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Things I Love Thursday- Picking Strawberries

This past Monday, we had the opportunity to go get in on some strawberry pickin' with the kids and Grandma, my mom. They absolutely loved it! I think Jaden ate more than anyone; once he found out what we were doing, he was completely happy to mooch off each of our boxes.:) We all had fun, and we came home with quite a few strawberries, which were so delicious.I've had some in the dehydrator all day, and I even made a fruit roll-up with some. Yum! I love getting out and doing stuff like that with my kids, though....it's such a simple thing but provides lots of memories. For more Things I Love Thursday, link up with Diaper Diaries.

Book Review- Word of Promise Next Generation NT

I was fortunate enough to be able to review 3 MP3 CDs for Thomas Nelson, the Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament Dramatic Audio Bible. There are over 23 hours of listening time on these cds, and they are a definite plus to any Christian’s collection or library.

My son actually listened to these for some of his Bible lessons. He liked the fact that some of his favorite actors, such as Corbin Bleu and Emily Osment, were reading to him. I liked the fact that the cds seemed to keep his attention, and they really were dramatized with sound effects, background noise, music, etc. The actors did a tremendous job of reading and helping you to feel the emotions, especially when Jesus was on the cross. There were different actors for different Biblical characters. Of course, the first five books were more dramatized, but even the letters written by Paul were right on with voice intonations and character shown throughout. The book of Revelation is actually one of my favorites, because I could honestly visualize what was being read; I could picture everything in my mind.

Before each book starts, there is an introduction to that book. Also included is a “Behind the Scenes” DVD that basically tells about the producer, the cast, and some of the things that went into making the cds. The actors tell about different aspects and even about living in Hollywood and some of their different interests.

This set is a great resource, especially for a family with pre-teens/teens. My son is younger, but he still enjoyed them. The only thing I did not like was that because they are MP3s, I can’t really play them in my car, but the set is still a great thing to have around, because even if you or your kids just take away one thing from listening, it’s worth it. If you'd like to read more about it, check it out at Thomas Nelson.

A Trip Back In Time

My mom gave me one of the best gifts she ever could have given me today....she had a whole box filled with some of the things I used to play with relentlessly when I was a little girl. From paper dolls with their playhouse books and my reusable sticker books.... to the Etch-A-Sketch with the games and puzzles pack and my Doodle Poodle and Math Star.... to my little matching cards and puzzles that I remember playing with for hours on end. I even had an old Paas set that I had saved one Easter and played with....my felt board with all kinds of wonderful shapes.....and last but not least, my Punky Brewster coloring book, which is inscribed by me; notice the front cover here.:) ("I like, no, love Punky Brewster!") LOLMy mom had to point that out; I used to race to get off the schoolvan every day to get inside and grab my snack so that I could watch Punky Brewster. Oh, the memories this brings back, and now I can share at least some of this with my boys. It's just so fun and special!
